Friday!This week's topic for Friday
June 30th suggested by
Jo:
TIME/TIMING.
"When we are in our studios. I find that I can't be in there
everyday. Particularly when I
have just finished something I
feel drained and need a
good
break. I also find that there
are only certain times of the
day where the juices get
flowing. I'd be interested to
read/see what others think."-Jo
Timing is everything. The
time in the morning just before
sunrise is so special. Basically
I am an early riser. Out of
habit from years of working. I
know that my most creative time
is very early in the day. In
order to not give all of that
"early creative" time to someone
else, I get up early enough to
give some of it to me. This
early morning time is when I can
journal, collage, paint or do
digital projects.
One key to it's success is
that I at least leave my studio
workspace in the condition that
I can just walk in, sit down and
do! That is the challenge.

20 things. 20 people.
20 days
The 20 Things project is an online gallery
showcasing the work of artists who create
limited edition multiples. Art swaps are organized at irregular
intervals, in groups of 20, at the whim of the
site organizer.
It reminds me of a project I am participating
with called ArtVent. It is group of
St.Louis creatives organized similar to an
Advent calendar. Each day a new treasure is
revealed. There are so many ways to play and be
creative. Start something similar to one
of these projects! For myself, it brings some
timelines and responsibility to my creative
projects. I try to keep them as stress-free as
possible and have fun! Try something!...

Digital is de rigeur- Lexar
Photography
The Thinking Photographer...I
very much enjoyed this article and wanted to share it with
you..."Nowadays digital is de rigeur,...With film you don’t
really know what you have until you have everything processed,
but with digital it is pretty much instantaneous: a
photographer just looks at the back of camera and sees if he
has the shot. ...
Here is the
exercise that I propose to help you get better and
it will take a lot of self-discipline. Take a Lexar card(or a
few cards) that will only hold 350 to 400 digital images,
(JPEG or RAW) in your camera. Give yourself an assignment of
your own choosing... You must shoot the assignment without looking at your digital
camera monitor. Try to imagine that Lexar has given you this
card (or cards) with the knowledge that you are only going to
get 350 to 400 images, but from these images, Lexar is going
to publish your complete photo essay. Take an idea, take your
time, and only use these few cards for your chosen photo
essay: the only time you want to see the photographs is when
you download them into the computer at the end of the
assignment...In this digital age this may be one of the toughest
assignments that you will ever have...What you will be doing is
relying on your ability to think about composition and think
about light, while not relying on the camera monitor or
Photoshop to bail you out. I think in the end you will find
that you will become a better."...View Ron Colbroth's Wesite:

Family....
I dream of a studio space stocked with furnishings from
Pottery Barn. You all know the pieces! In reality, if it
were not for family and time, my studio space would be naked.
I appreciated it. The lamp from a long ago living room
scheme...The dresser from my son...The chair from a long ago
kitchen. Family,...we grow with time and the pick of
furnishings become mine. When I sit in the chair, with the old
kitchen cushion, I feel really good. Family...See how others

Problems...
I
think there's a great beauty to having problems. That's one of
the ways we learn.

Avishai
Cohen...Continuo
"Continuo
(a Baroque term that is generally the practice of creating an
accompaniment from a composed bass part and improvising
harmony above them, or, improvising accompaniments from
figured bass), is a recording that once again reflects
Avishai
Cohen’s life in music by combining the glorious influences
of classical music and Middle Eastern music. Essentially,
“fusing the two worlds of East and West. These elements
together produced the combination of sounds I was looking for,
and created a nice balance between composed and improvised
music"...Until late in 2003, Avishai was a member of the
Chick Corea New
Trio.

In the jazz
world...jazz fans can
download individual tracks...look for a new track by
Avishai Cohen called ‘‘Smash.” ...it’s a pretty intense Chick
Corea-style jaunt with an abundance of great playing. There is
so much to love in the world of music....jun

I Am So Jazzed!
Studio
Friday
flash this week..." I'm sure we've all had a
moment when we're creating something we've had in mind and
then something totally different results by accident." This
certainly qualifies. I have a new program, "Xtivity".
I have been trying to utilized it to create a
flash introduction to
Soulnoir. All
results are by accident! I can't go into gory details,
because I have no idea what I did! Back to the drawing
board for more inspiration and coffee stains. The current face
of Soulnoir!

InWeDay 2006
In the process of
bumping around the week on a bum knee, I totally missed that
yesterday was
International Webloggers Day. Granted this is not a
weblog in the sense of
Typepad or Blogger.
It is my presentation with the same purpose and feel. I have
learned a lot doing this way. Most importantly the
International Webloggers day is to commemorate the importance
of this still growing phenomenon in the world of
communication. I love them! There is a blog to
address any and every opinion or interest. In the last
presidential election there were blog that swayed the opinions
of large groups of voters. So will be the case in this
election. Go, go bloggers! InWeDay 2006...jun

Its the Zoo!
I went to the famous
St.Louis Zoo today. My mission was an outing with the Stlouis
Photobloggers. I missed hooking up with the group so I
decided to walk for an hour and take a few shots. I got
distracted before the hour was up but it
was
really fun. I even rode the train. Dang those seats are really
really small. The cats were doing what cats do...sleep.
The chimps were all hiding out. The Puffins would not
cooperate for a good shot. It was hot as H outside. It was
FUN! I mean it. Got to say, it is fun being a tourist in your
own town. I have fond memories of the zoo as a child. Got to
keep it up...jun 10,2006
In to the Future...
I
see a point in my life coming where I want to have glorious
things to participate. I want to be happy and busy as an older
woman. Trying to hang in the latest club for older adults does
not work for me. The future is coming where I want there to be
comfort and purpose as well as opportunities for creativity.
Mp, I am not about to become a
Red Hat Society Lady. The concept is
great but the constituency I have seen does nor work for me.
Somewhere there is a balance in my future.
Recently, at church I had a moment of admiration for some
of the members of the
United Methodist Women organization. It is one of the
many things I see in my future.... Jun 5,2006

It's Official...
I shudder to think that I would really be officially a
photographer. Better than some I know that battle for the
position, that is sure. I shoot what I like in the manner I
wish to shoot pictures. I love my DimageZ6. I get a rush when
I go out and shoot. My plan is to become a tourist in my own
town, for a day at a time. Although I admire the opportunities
that come to others, and understand that if I want the same
opportunities, someday they will be mine. It's in the stars.
Looking forward to the next opportunity, although it may not
be the number one my list of dreams. Looking forward to
the next shot! I love what I can
do, for me!...jun

Smart ForTwo Spotted in St. Louis
The
SmartCar has arrived in St.Louis. One was sited at the recent
Bosnian Festival in south St.Louis by
urbaneviewstl.com. It is owned by a couple who saw one in
Paris. They had to have one. A few are being sold by
Suntrup Ford here in St. Louis. This is the
standard in Europe where gas is far more expensive than in the
US. Check out the additional
photos and information! jun1, 2006.
